ABOUT HUNGER IN NWA
No one should go hungry, yet in Northwest Arkansas over 70,000 men, women, senior citizens and children face hunger every day.
The number of hungry people has increased in the past years, but the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank continues to fight for everyone to have access to nutritious food to eat.
WHO IS FOOD INSECURE?
-
According to Feeding America over 70,000 people in Northwest Arkansas are struggling with food insecurity.
HOW DOES THE FOOD BANK OPERATE?
DONATIONS ARE MADE: The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank secures donations from the food and grocery industries, government agencies, and other organizations.
FOOD IS STORED: The food that is donated or purchased is then stored in our 22,000 square foot warehouse located in Bethel Heights.
FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED: The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank arranges pick-ups with it’s 130+ member charitable agencies.
FOOD REACHES THOSE IN NEED: Donations are provided to people in need at food pantries, soup kitchens, youth programs, senior centers, schools, and emergency shelters.
The NWA Food Bank is one of 6 Feeding America Food Banks in Arkansas. The Food Bank works to:
· Distribute food to those who are food insecure in our community
· Forge strong relationships with businesses, non-profit organizations, and others in the community who share the passion to end hunger in Northwest Arkansas.
It is our desire for healthy food to reach the kitchen tables of our neighbors as quickly as possible. We are encouraged by the numbers which reflect this effort. The NWA Food Bank’s provided 8.2 million pounds of food or 6.9 million meals in 2015.
