AHRA Helps Funds Volunteer Program Expansion

In 2015, nearly 7,000 hours of volunteer time was accumulated by volunteers at the food bank. Also in 2015, the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank distributed 8.2 million pounds of food to the hungry in NWA. With the success of the food bank so reliant on volunteers, the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank expanded the volunteer program to a 6,000 sq ft warehouse and developed more volunteer opportunities to include examining and sorting food from retail store donations, packing boxes of food for seniors and participating the “Stack, Stuff, and Seal” program. By implementing the expansion of this program, the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank has seen an increase in the number of volunteers and thus increase the awareness of hunger in our community. Furthermore, this program will allow for agencies to pick up additional food at a lower cost than purchased food and provide more food to the hungry in our community.

Thank you Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance for helping us fund this great program!
